E-diary for Elective Module 9 Activity 11 – Final Reflections

Has the journey so far been smooth or hard going? The lessons that I have learned so far?

The journey through this module was quite interesting.  Initially I thought “Leadership?” this is for principals.  Having gone through the articles and activities I have learned so much and grown significantly.  Activity 7 was rather enlightening and I concluded that having a clear vision for technology is essential in order to make wise decision in integrating and managing ICT in schools.

How my aspirations for my school have changed now that I have completed this module? How I feel about the school's vision and whether it is on track?

As a school we take a whole school approach to effectively and systematically use ICT in the teaching and learning and management.  I am happy that majority of the staff contributed in the process of creating the vision and it encompasses what the students, teachers and school will do.  The vision is definitely on target.

The key areas that will be focus points for my continued learning about ICTs, their uses and ways to plan for them at my school. How I am going to support my own continued learning?  I would focus on
-developing a plan of action to realize the vision
-identifying personnel for putting the plan into action
-integrating ICT across the curriculum
-ongoing monitoring and evaluating the process of integration
-changing the strategy according to the outcome of the monitoring and evaluating.

To support my own continued learning, I would engage in systematic reading for personal and professional development; use audio and video through youtube for continuous learning; seek out and enroll in offline and online courses that will keep me abreast of ICT development and complete the modules in this course (CCTI).

E-diary for Elective Module 9 Activity 9 - Creating A Shared Vision

What I felt after the meeting. Was I an effective  presenter/motivator?   I considered myself an effective facilitator since I encouraged the participants to discuss in small groups, whole group and to make and share reflection.  Most importantly all participants share in creating the vision thus giving them a sense of control over the change activity and making it easier for them to buy into the vision.   Teachers were influenced to form support teams to work together in integrating ICT into teaching and learning and to share their technical and pedagogical methods.

My reflections on the journey ahead. Now that I have involved others in creating the vision for ICT integration, as a leader I must foster smart partnership with the community and the corporate sector in an effort to gain ICT expertise and raise funds to acquire ICT resources in order to increase accessibility and equity of ICT among the students.  I will also plan training sessions for teachers to learn new knowledge and gain new skills and competencies and I will exchange information with schools who have successfully and effectively integrated ICT so that we can synergistically share  knowledge and ideas in integrating ICT in schools

(Optional) How I feel about the course so far: Even though there has been a degree of pressure I consider the course to be favourably challenging since I experienced growth in the process.

E-diary for Elective Module 9: ICT Leadership in Schools - Activity 8 – Importance of vision

After Activity 8:
My one big thought about a vision for my school:

To prepare students for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world, Pares Primary will use ICT to enhance, extend and support every day teaching, learning and administration.  Students will have free access to the multitude of ICT technology that is available while parents and teachers work together to enrich their child's education using ICT as a tool.   ICT integration will further promote social interaction and collaborative learning so that learning continues into the home and the wider community.  Cross curricular teaching of ICT will build on skills learned in ICT lessons. The implementation of ICT will enable parents, students and staff to use ICT wherever and whenever they feel it is appropriate.  There will be a specific coordinator for ICT although each teacher will be responsible for executing his/her content, methods and processes for each subject/ curriculum area.

(Optional) How I feel about the course so far:

Participating in the programme at this point and engaging in the module ICT Leadership has expanded my view concerting principles of leadership and I am  inspired to take on leadership roles with regards to the full integration of ICT at my school .
